In most battle royale games, we fight each other on a huge island where we can sometimes run for minutes or drive between different locations before we stumble upon someone, and these roads are usually not very stimulus-rich. In Black Ops 4’s Blackout, for example, they tried to make the track exciting by stacking classic Call of Duty tracks next to each other, and that obviously made things interesting, but at the same time they were still connected by the big stinky nothing, just bumping into the empty fields, as if it were not tomorrow.
