Blizzard team taking things to the next level
The reigning king of character shooters, Overwatch, is getting a long-expected sequel. Overwatch 2 will sport revamped visuals, new characters and entirely new game modes. Also included will be a long-requested story mode, an interesting opportunity for Blizzard to tell Overwatch’s narrative more traditionally as opposed to in animated shorts and out-of-game comics. Blizzard was tight-lipped as to when fans would get their hands on the sequel, however.
One of the big reveals at this year’s BlizzCon was the Overwatch team taking things to the next level. Overwatch 2 is now on the horizon, acting as a sort of sequel to the original team-based shooter. Those reading this might wonder what “sort of” is supposed to mean. Shacknews is here to talk about
everything we know about Overwatch 2 so far.
During a panel at BlizzCon, director Jeff Kaplan confirmed that Overwatch 2 will be on Switch. There’s still no word on a release window at this time.
Is Overwatch 2 a new game?
Here is the rundown of what you care about. No you do not have to buy Overwatch 2 in order to play multiplayer Player VS Player. In fact all of the PVP content from Overwatch 2 will also be available in Overwatch. This content includes All new PVP maps, new heroes, Icons, skins, emotes and sprays. Oh I forgot one thing a new PVP game mode called push! It’s basically a new take on the old game mode payload.
The key new feature in the game is the addition of a full-blown story mode. The Zero Hour trailer revealed a world in which Overwatch has finally re-emerged as the heroic team that once protected the globe. And they’ve come back together just in the nick of time, as the world appears to be in danger from a powerful organization called Null Sector.
In my opinion this game is for those that love the content and story of Overwatch more than the just the competitive aspect. As for the few in the community that play for the ranking and the joy of beating out other players, you’re not really missing out other than a crushing feeling of fomo since everyone of your friends who is a fan of overwatch will be playing it.
